• Welcome to JuMP Fitness!

Hi, I’m Jan Phillis, and I lost 100 pounds and it’s gone for good. In July 2007, I started a journey to regain my health and attain a fit body for the first time in my life. Along the way, so far, I’ve lost about 105 pounds and improved my health in countless ways. My full-time job is with Mayo Clinic Rochester as an outpatient medical transcriptionist. I am a teleworker (work out of my home). However, I worked on-site, on the Rochester campus, for 7 years before working from home. During that time, I had the opportunity to get acquainted with many physicians and wellness coaches, personal trainers, etc. at Mayo. Through their shared knowledge, I have learned many different aspects of obtaining a healthy lifestyle.

  • Own YOUR Food

    line
Do you remember the school lunch room? Did you ever eat someone else’s food? Or trade with someone for something? Now fast forward to the present. Are you or have you been a parent with small children? Have you ever eaten something off your child’s plate either during the meal or after while cleaning up? Think about it. If you did, or if this is a habit you currently have, how did/how do you feel about it? Think of the extra calories that are going into your body that don’t even belong...

  • Relax...

    line
As an obesity survivor, I’ve been maintaining my weight loss long enough now to have done some reflecting on the past without shame or fear of relapse. I lost a substantial amount of weight twice before in my life – 80 pounds or so in my teens, and then that same 80 (or so) in my early 30s. Early on in this journey I discovered the missing link to losing weight and keeping it off. Stress relief.

About JuMP

JuMP is my dream-to-reality home gym and personal training studio. JuMP is also my part-time job helping YOU create and achieve your wellness goals. I dedicate my time and knowledge to your well-being and will strive to help you be the best you can be. At JuMP, there is no “gym pressure,” no unwanted eyes watching you exercise, nothing to compare yourself to except your own awesome progress. JuMP is your accountability on your journey. I am also your friend and your confidant. I will listen to you, answer your questions to the best of my ability, and motivate you to go farther than you ever thought you could. I know first hand what it is like to go from being morbidly obese to having a fit body so I will know every fear, every feeling, every barrier you experience along the way because I’ve been there!

I currently am a certified personal trainer, obtaining my certification from AFAA (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America) In April 2010.  I obtained my group fitness instructor certification from AFAA in October 2011.  I attend continuing education opportunites on a regular basis.

About YOU (u)

With JuMP, it’s all about u (YOU!) I am dedicated to your complete wellness – mind, body, and spirit. I am not out here because fitness is a fad, and it looks like a great place to make a buck right now. I’m here for the long haul. As my client, you will learn how important achieving a healthy body and healthy habits is to feeling good and having the energy and strength you need for your role in life and in your family. You will be assured that you will be learning techniques and the correct form during exercise so as to prevent injury. You will be challenged to push your strength and your body’s capacity for exercise to create change and results that will make a difference in your everyday life.

I will meet with you here at the Cedar Falls studio, at your home, or other location (if you have a fitness center membership elsewhere, or outdoors in good weather, etc.)

I have to add also that after getting my first taste of public exposure at the Ladies Day of Indulgence in Waterloo in May 2011, comments were made that “oh, I can’t jump when I exercize” and “do you do low impact activity?” soooo, no I’m not a mean ol trainer that will make you jump to burn calories (of course there is that possibility, however).  What JuMP means is that JMP are my initials (JanMarie Phillis) and the “little u” is YOU.  So together, YOU and I will commit to improving YOUR health.

It’s hard work to make changes. But it has to be done, and you will not be alone. The rewards to added physical stamina and strength are endless.
